High Point is the epicenter of the design world and from this bastion of design they have gathered together the four top trends from 2012. Old ideas and motifs are updated with a twist. Look for ethnic embellishments abound, oversized botanicals are in bloom, metallics make their mark on all things home decor and bold graphic patterns make furnishings come alive.
|All that glitters, Metals range from bronze to gold and silver. These finishes show up on upholstery, case goods and accessories. This year, look for a range of metals, from bronze and copper to platinum, gold and silver. Especially exciting is the use of metallic fabrics.

One of my favorite trends. Mid-century graphic patterns show up on classically inspired accent furniture. Rescue an old chair and reupholster in a jazzy geometric pattern or find one of the many bold options available.
Outstanding Chloe chair from Crate and Barrel.
If I can mix it up I will, so this is right up my alley. Bringing together patterns and motifs blend the texture and color of old-world looks with modern décor resulting in a wonderful and unique home.
Wonderful ethnically inspired rug – Tesoro I from Inigo Elizalde
This trend encompasses “loud patterns with exuberant florals” and “abstract patterning.” Look for bold, unexpected color palettes on upholstery, pillows, tablecloths, rugs and wallpaper, and botanical prints as wall decor. How fun is that!
