As an Orlando interior designer, I am often asked “where do I start” when starting a project.  Because I do it so often and have so many “starting” places it is not an easy question to clarify.  So here are a few of my starting places.

1. Permanent installation materials, i.e. flooring, countertops, bath tile, etc.: Recently a client and I started working on her kitchen/family room remodel.  Because she had already selected granite and was getting ready to change the whole feel of her combined kitchen/family room area this was a great place to start.  We are using the colors in the granite to help us select a backsplash material and from there we will move on to paint, new furniture, rugs, window treatments etc all starting from her selection of the granite.

2. Paint – can start here or end here:  I often have clients ask if you should pick paint first or last in a project.  The answer can be either.  If you are open to the idea, paint can be picked based on your existing furnishings, your clothing choices or just based on where you want the room to go.  This can start the whole direction of the room.   If you are not comfortable with that then wait and pick some of the furnishings and then select your paint colors.

Dining Room

Hello my friends!

Hope you had a relaxing holiday and are gearing up for 2011. I feel very fortunate to have had such great clients in the Orlando area and have made some new friends in 2010. My clients were looking to add color, local art and have been open to creative solutions to their design dilemmas and we have had fun while doing it! Some of the projects I am working on this year include a nursery for a young couple in College Park. They have a relaxed contemporary style and it will be pleasure creating a room for their first born (it’s a girl!) I am also completing the living room and dining room for a very colorful, modern busy family. We just installed an awesome custom entertainment center in this Winter Park home and are moving onto the finishing touches in these areas. Can’t wait to see what we will work on next. I have an on an ongoing project in a beautiful home in Winter Springs. This has included redoing the entire kitchen with an unbelievable, one- of-a kind metal bar. Next we are moving on to the powder bath and laundry area. I have also had the opportunity to install art from some of our talented local artists in many of my projects. I love it when I can support our local artists. I am working with my talented husband to get pictures of all these creative, stylish and colorful jobs and to post on my website and blog.

I have made many changes in my business this year, including this blog, a facebook page and a new focus for my business which includes a continued emphasis on client care and colorful, bold interior design. Thanks to all of you who have assisted with or given your feedback to these endeavors. Next up is my new and improved website. I will be sure to let you know when that comes out!

I love working with my clients in Central Florida and am always looking for the next creative undertaking. My best jobs come from referrals so to those of you who have passed on my phone number, website or email with others, I appreciate it. If you know someone moving into a new home that needs help pulling it together or someone getting ready to update their existing home and are interested in creating a classic contemporary look please pass on my information. Please post this to your profiles too because you never know who might be looking for a designer.

I am grateful that I can pursue something I love and help others to have a stylish, truly unique home. And thanks to those of my designer friends out there who inspire me and support our design community. May we all have an abundant and amazing year filled with friendship, art, good food, good times and our course, music!

One of my favorite local artists, Victor Bokas,  is having an art show this weekend.  Please check out the video below for a preview and hope to see you there.  Art show will be at: Baldwin Park Clubhouse, 1913 Meeting Place, Orlando FL.
